Academics
Academics at MMS
Welcome to the academic hub of Merrimack Middle School. These years are a vital bridge between elementary and high school, where students begin to take more ownership of their learning. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students intellectually while supporting their social and emotional growth during these transformative years.
The Teaming Model
At MMS, our academic structure is built around grade-level teams. This "school-within-a-school" approach ensures that every student is known and supported by a consistent group of core teachers. This collaboration allows for more personalized instruction and a stronger sense of community.
Support & Specialized Programs
We recognize that middle school students have diverse learning needs. We provide a comprehensive support network to ensure every student feels confident and capable:
-
School Counseling: Our counselors focus on transition support, social-emotional learning, and helping students navigate new social dynamics.
-
Student Services: We provide specialized instruction and individualized support plans (IEPs/504s) to ensure equitable access to all academic programs.
-
Unified Arts: In addition to core subjects, students explore "Unified Arts" including Art, Music, Physical Education, Health, Family and Consumer Science, Technology Education, and World Language to discover new interests.
